Escape Room Day takes place on the 1st October every year. It is a day to celebrate Escape Rooms, and one where fans across the world aim to visit and complete as many Escape Rooms as they can on the day.
What is an Escape Room?
Put simply, an Escape Room is an immersive room filled with puzzles, clues and hints. The aim is to solve every puzzle before time runs out, by finding clues and answers to things such as lock combinations, word conundrums or even finding out where a certain lever has to go! Escape Rooms usually follow a theme, meaning the room itself is decorated to incorporate that theme. So an Escape Room could be dressed as an underground bunker, an abandoned hospital or even a prison cell.
What happens on Escape Room Day?
Escape Room Day is an excuse for fans of Escape Rooms to go out and complete rooms they have never done before, and for those who have never done an escape room before to complete their first one. Some Escape Rooms will have exclusive offers to celebrate the day too.

Why is Escape Room day on 1st October?
According to the official website for Escape Room Day, the 1st October was chosen as Escape Room Day, as part of a puzzle that exists within the words themselves.
If you give each letter of the alphabet a number depending on what order it appears (i.e. A=1, B=2, C=3 and so on) then apply this to the word ESCAPE ROOM, you can then add up the total of all the numbers in the word.
The total comes to 110. If we convert that into a date we get 1/10, or the 1st October.
Taking it even further, if you convert 110 into a binary number, you get the number: 1101110. Converting this into a date and time gets us 1/10 11:10. So, technically, Escape Room Day takes place at 11:10am on the 1st October (but we open our Escape Rooms earlier than that).
